What Every Pregnant Woman Needs To Know

Eat healthy during pregnancy and avoid c-sections unless absolutely necessary

What's The Solution?

So why are we having so many of our mothers dying after giving birth. Even after diagnosing them with obesity issues. What about the wealth of knowledge available to doctors about the pros and cons of c-sections and how to guard against fatalities after such a major surgery? Well The Centers Of Disease Control, declares a great percentage of all pregnant women in the U.S. are now obese at the start of their pregnancy. As a result, "these women are more likely to have underlying health conditions, including diabetes or asthma, which can lead to pregnancy-related complications."

On the other hand, more and more pregnant women, are having more c-sections, for reasons stemming from trying to avoid the pain of natural birth, to wanting their child to be born on a particular date etc. This behaviour has gained popularity and in causing our mothers to be eligible statistics for the increase in maternal mortality rates. ABC News further broadcasted that the "latest data from the CDC shows that 31 percent of the mothers now choose to have C-sections, up 50 percent since 1996." So though we have had an in cling that there's a risk for obese pregnant women as well as the dangers to having c-sections, We now have more reasons to believe these studies, that have repeatedly shown a higher rate of mortality in mothers who have a C-section delivery, especially those who have multiple C-sections. Doctors can do much more to prevent the maternal mortality rate. We are living in the United States of American, in such a time as this where we are more technological advanced in many areas that could forfeit or lessen the possibility of the likelihood of any of our mothers dying after giving birth.

The bottom line is this: the more c-sections you have the greater your chances of maternal mortality. If you must have a c-section, then do your own research as to what to do to prepare for the surgery as well as what to do after you have the surgery. Equally important, excessive eating during pregnancy is not to be promoted as "eating for two". It is not only unhealthy but it may pose as a threat to your life after childbirth.

It must be hard for a husband to grasp the fact that he could take his wife into the hospital to deliver a beautiful 'bundle of joy into the world' only to leave the hospital with the baby and no mother to help take care of the newborn. While death after childbirth might have been rare in the past, recently there has been an increase in this scenario. One that is stated to have nearly tripled over the past decade, from 5.6 deaths per 100,000 to 16.9 per 100,000 in 2006." in California

Obesity and C-Sections are Major Causes

Doctors in California have been studying the rise in the mortality rate of maternal women. According to research being done, to effectively pin point the cause. Obesity and c-sections are notably among some of the known causes along with "hemorrhage, from deep vein thrombosis or blood clots, and from underlying cardiac disease,".

According to the news report on ABC News, information furnished by the World Health Organization showed that research back in 2005 indicated that when it comes to maternal deaths, the U.S. ranks behind more than 40 other countries with 11 deaths per 100,000 pregnancies. That simply means, "more women die in the U.S. after giving birth than die in countries including Poland, Croatia, Italy and Canada, to name a few."
